Psychic Readings from The
Psychic Internet often feature images drawn from the
I Ching Oracle. To offer supplementary
information about these images for our clients,
and for the public, we have provided this archive
of brief articles.

The
abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually
called "hexagrams") symbolize all of
the related and interacting aspects of reality.
In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching
are discussed.

Retreat
They in
fact will resist it with all their might. They
will want to draw you into their own affairs, and
their own sphere of doings and influence. This is
indicated for us in the first of the two verses
that are highlighted specifically for you by
todays Reading from the image of Retreat.
In it the oracle says, He holds him fast
with yellow oxhide. Now, this verse has a
slightly ambivalent meaning, in as much as it
does not at all denote a negative position for
someone to take. Indeed, for the relatively
inferior person, it is a very good position to
take. In effect, it describes the way in which
inferior people latch themselves onto superior
people as a way of advancing themselves in one
way or another. It is natural for people with
meager resources to want to attach themselves to
people with abundant resources. In other words,
the meaning of this verse depends on ones
specific point of view. Since you are NOT the
relatively inferior person in the situation at
hand, and since the situation at hand requires
(or has just recently required) a decision from
you, it would not be wise to assume that the
positive aspects of this verse apply specifically
to you.
Indeed,
quite the contrary would be better advised, all
things considered. You will see that the images
that we have drawn for you from our Tarot Oracle
indicate a great deal of forward-looking positive
energy surrounding you at this time.
Nevertheless, it is important to focus our
understanding of the message in the verse quoted
above through the lens of the idea of retreat. As
you know, the idea of retreat is neither positive
nor negative by definition. The idea of Retreat
is by no means a contradiction of the good
fortune indicated by the images we have drawn
from our Tarot Oracle for todays Reading.
It must be remembered that the character of any
retreat is determined by the specific
circumstances and the quality of the specific
moment. As a general rule, the portent associated
with the image of Retreat is a very good one
or, in the words of the Judgment verse,
Success. In what is small, perseverance
furthers. For the purposes of this
particular Reading, it is clear that a retreat is
the better part of valor under the circumstances
that obtain for you at this time
ESPECIALLY where it concerns the attempts of
certain other people to involve you in their own
affairs and way of doing things. Others will
resist your retreat from them, but this ought not
to influence you in the slightest.
You can
understand through the first verse quoted above
the nature of the motivations of others involved
in this situation with you, and thereby come
perhaps to a fairly compassionate way of handling
the matter. This is revealed partly through the
central verse that is associated with the image
of Retreat. In it the oracle says, Mountain
under Heaven: the image of Retreat. Thus the
superior man keeps the inferior man at a
distance, not angrily but with reserve.
But, the same idea is also suggested, and
emphasized, through the second of the two verses
that are highlighted specifically for you by
todays Reading from the image of Retreat.
In it the oracle says, Friendly retreat.
Perseverance brings good fortune. And
Confucius adds to this, the comment,
Perseverance brings good fortune because
the will thereby reaches a correct
decision.
