The Biblical Tower of Babel is as apt a model. People strive for greatness and permanency. But all that is truly permanent in the human orbit is change and imperfection. When the image of The Tower appears, expect dramatic alterations of the status quo, the disruption of routine, surprises and shakeups of all kinds, the onset of chaos, and sometimes of crisis. But in all this, look as well for revelations of deeper meanings in the circumstances of your life, the dispelling of illusions, and the disclosure of what had been hidden. One of our clients asked for our insight with respect to his employment in an executive position with a large corporation. He had taken this position in high hopes of doing cutting-edge work, innovating the outdated technological underpinning of the company's marketing structure. Sadly, he found stodgy opposition to every move he tried to make. In our Reading, the reversal of the image of The Tower reflected the stagnant situation that he had encountered, for the usual transformative powers of the image were deflected and defused by its reversal. Moreover, we saw in this image a portent for what our client could continue to expect in his situation. We suggested that it was probably time to come to grips with his disappointment and move on. |
