The Three of Wands

The image of Three Wands is often regarded as the sign of visionary leadership. Under its influence, one has the power to seek out the distant horizon, and to chart unknown waters. For us, this general idea has often revealed an implicit need for setting oneself apart from one's accustomed milieu, even to the point of dissolving old and outworn relationships. On more than a few occasions, the image has also signified a choice that involves favoring one relationship over others. When it appears, we are sometimes reminded of an ancient Chinese verse: "When three people travel together, their number is reduced by one. When one travels alone, one meets a companion.

The latter meaning asserted itself when once a client asked about his relationship with a woman who had met with sharp disapproval from his overly judgmental and possessive parents.
