| The Ace of Cups
is a portent of future happiness and fulfillment,
especially in matters concerning love, soul, and spirit.
Consider that the function of any cup is to contain
something, especially of a liquid nature. Thus, in
general, the Cups of the Tarot Oracle evoke ideas of
water, and of blood. Water fills the oceans, from which
the origins of life arose, and in this association we
feel the mysterious powers of the life force itself. Who
is not stirred to the profoundest thoughts when gazing on
the deep? In blood, the life force is also at work, and
in its motive organ, the heart, philosophers and poets
find the seat of the emotions. Through its capacity for
compassion, the secondary faculties of intuition and
psychic insight may be deduced. But perhaps most
significantly, the connection of the Cups of the Tarot
with the life force brings to mind the possibility of
salvation and eternal life. The Ace of Cups is in this
respect the ultimate emblem of faith, being the legendary
cup of the Holy Grail. One of our clients, on learning that she was pregnant, and after a history of several miscarriages, asked if she would be able to carry her baby to term. When the Ace of Cups appeared among other images with happy portents for positive results, we knew that she would most probably give birth to a healthy baby. This turned out to be the case. It was an easy birth, with no complications. |
