The Images (Hexagrams) of the I Ching Oracle in Psychic Readings

Psychic Readings from The Psychic Internet often feature images drawn from the I Ching Oracle. To offer supplementary information about these images for our clients, and for the public, we have provided this archive of brief articles.

For general information on the I Ching Oracle, click here.

The abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually called "hexagrams") symbolize all of the related and interacting aspects of reality. In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching are discussed.

Progress

In every way, we see progress in store for you. Of course, this is the obvious implication of the image that we drew for you today, which is specifically called Progress. And the image of Progress presents itself with an emphasis on its most positive aspects. In the first of its verses that is highlighted specifically for you by today’s Reading from this image, the oracle says, “All are in accord. Remorse disappears.” This describes harmony among the many diverse elements that you are bringing together in your ventures. As Wilhelm says about this verse, “A man strives onward, in association with others whose backing encourages him. This dispels any cause for regret over the fact that he does not have enough independence to triumph unaided over every hostile turn of fate.” In the Tao of Organization, the emphasis is focused directly on the way that subordinates come into harmony with the intentions and directions of the leadership. This, of course, accounts for the strength with which progress can be made under such circumstances. Everybody will be of one mind in the accomplishment of your goals. (In this regard, we could also refer you to the central verse from the second of the two images that we have drawn for you from our I Ching Oracle today. It says, “Thus the superior man encourages people to approach him by his willingness to receive them.” In other words, it is your own modesty, acknowledging your own limitations, that invites the powerful influence of people like the woman that we described at the beginning of this Reading.)

In the second verse that is highlighted specifically for you by today’s Reading from the image of Progress, the oracle says, “Remorse disappears. Take not gain and loss to heart. Undertakings bring good fortune. Everything serves to further.” It is worthwhile, we think, to quote Wilhelm again on this verse, for he describes your situation as depending on a certain degree of restraint that should not be ignored. Thus, “The situation described here is that of one who, finding himself in an influential position in a time of progress, remains gentle and reserved. He might reproach himself for lack of energy in making the most of the propitiousness of the time and obtaining all possible advantage. However, this regret passes away. He must not take either loss or gain to heart; they are minor considerations. What matters much more is the fact that in this way he has assured himself of opportunities for successful and beneficent influence.”

The commentary from Tao of Organization on this verse will also give you useful advice under these circumstances. Thus, “Since the subordinates are of the same character and are obedient and loyal, it is appropriate to exercise honesty toward them in delegating responsibilities, using everyone’s abilities to the fullest, accomplishing the aim of the whole community. Those in this position should no longer trust arbitrarily in their own understanding and worry about their loss or gain. To proceed like this bodes well; it will be beneficial all around. The enlightened leader does not worry about not being able to perceive clearly, but about using clarity too much, to the point of becoming picayune and losing the way to delegate responsibility. Hence the warning not to worry about loss or gain. Prejudiced delegation of responsibility or authority based on personal views without perception has blind spots. If you are going to be completely impartial to everyone in the world, could it be appropriate to use personalistic observations any more?”

In other words, a certain kind of personal restraint will be wise on your part. Careful alertness to the workings of the overactive ego will be very helpful. And this is echoed in the final verse that is highlighted specifically for you by today’s Reading from the image of Progress. Here, the oracle says, “Making progress with the horns is permissible only for the purpose of punishing one’s own city. To be conscious of danger brings good fortune. No blame. Perseverance brings humiliation.” In this case, perseverance refers to insistence on your own rightness in every detail. It is important to be able to rise in altitude, so to speak. Progress with “the horns” refers to an aggressive and offensive position, which will not be particularly helpful during the week ahead. “One’s own city,” in the characteristic jargon of this oracle, refers to your own failings. Where those failings are concerned, apparently a very high degree of honest confrontation is beneficial. When it comes to other people’s failings, however, it might be best to evaluate how truly significant they are under the specific circumstances that present themselves. It may be best to cultivate a certain kind of gentleness in this respect. We daresay that this is in your nature in any case. Be ever the gentleman and you will get better results from people - at least for the time being.
