The Images (Hexagrams) of the I Ching Oracle in Psychic Readings

Psychic Readings from The Psychic Internet often feature images drawn from the I Ching Oracle. To offer supplementary information about these images for our clients, and for the public, we have provided this archive of brief articles.

The abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually called "hexagrams") symbolize all of the related and interacting aspects of reality. In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching are discussed.

In fact, there is reason to believe that your experience with S. will help to strengthen and refine your personality, and bring similar good results to S., even if the two of you do not move forward into the kind of relationship that you have been hoping for. This idea is expressed explicitly in the verse that has been highlighted by today’s Reading from the image of Increase, which I have drawn for you from the I Ching Oracle, the ancient Chinese classic that is also known as the Book of Changes. In this verse, the oracle says, “One is enriched through unfortunate events. No blame, if you are sincere and walk in the middle, and report with a seal to the prince.”

Parts of this verse may seem obscure if you are not familiar with the characteristic jargon that is used by this oracle to express its judgments. The idea of being enriched by unfortunate events is not obscure, and it may be understood as an expression of a dark cloud’s silver lining that I referred in the paragraph above. And the idea of being sincere is simply a reminder to you that there is nothing negative, per se, about your feelings for S. In other words, there is apparently no subconscious or ulterior motivation on your part that in any way indicates that your feelings for her arise out of something that is inappropriate in you.

However, when the oracle speaks of walking “in the middle,” it expresses a warning to you about getting carried away by the feelings that you have for S, allowing yourself to suppose that more can come of this relationship than is really within its potential. The “middle way” is a traditional Chinese expression that promotes the idea of moderation and temperance. In short, this reference to the middle way advises you to moderate your expectations about your relationship with her. And to “report with a seal to the prince” is simply a way of saying that you need to proceed in such a way as to be in harmony with what a Higher Power has determined to be right for you. Too often, we are willful, and imagine that we can arrange our own destiny in life according to rather superficial and transitory predilections and goals. Life usually frustrates our efforts when we proceed in this way. It is better to live in the faith that what is best for us will inevitably come our way if we are patient and receptive to good. There is no explaining or proving this faith, but the deepest realities are by nature mysterious and the wise person never loses sight of the limitations of reason in this respect.
