Psychic Readings from The
Psychic Internet often feature images drawn from the
I Ching Oracle. To offer supplementary
information about these images for our clients,
and for the public, we have provided this archive
of brief articles.

The
abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually
called "hexagrams") symbolize all of
the related and interacting aspects of reality.
In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching
are discussed.

Duration
The image
of Duration follows upon the image of Influence,
also called Wooing, and together these two images
describe the perfect evolution of the
relationship between the sexes. In Duration, the
laws of longevity and dependability in
relationships are elaborated. Thus, in one verse,
the oracle says, Seeking duration too
hastily brings misfortune persistently.
When we are not ready for a long-lasting
relationship, we should not pretend to be ready,
and we should avoid getting married when the
conditions are not right.
In
another verse, the oracle says, She who
does not give duration to her character meets
with disgrace. Persistent humiliation. This
describes someone who is at the mercy of her
moods and emotions, someone who loses her inner
consistency, which is as much as to say that she
is someone who does not understand her natural
needs as an individual.
Another
verse says, No game in the field.
This is to look for love in all the wrong places.
And so on, the oracle thus describes all the ways
in which people seek for duration without
understanding the foundation on which all things
long-lasting stand.
Every
individual must understand this aspect of the art
of life from their own particular perspective,
and so the oracle is advising you to consider
what you require in order to achieve duration in
a relationship, and to balance this intellectual
grace of consciousness against the purely
emotional romanticism which may have dominated
your life in the past.
This
cannot be done in a day. As I said at the
beginning, we have consulted the I Ching Oracle
for you with a mind to the whole twelve-months
covered by this Reading. Even if in the response
the oracle singles out some particular event or
development that may not literally spread out
over the whole period, still its significance is
likely to be paramount during the whole
timeframe. During the next significant period of
your life, then, the oracle is telling you that
it would be well to consider the virtues of being
alone, which at present, as you hinted, you may
erroneously consider to be just a painful penance
for being too romantic. But, you see, it may be a
blessing. Sometimes we dont know what is
best for us. Thus, in the central verse
associated with the image of Preponderance of the
Great, which is the second of the two images that
we have drawn for you today, the oracle says,
The superior person, when she stands alone,
is unconcerned, and if she has to renounce the
world, she is undaunted.
