Darkening of the Light
I will
begin todays Reading about your business
affairs, with words from the Tao of Organization.
Managing oneself in harmony with the time
is the best way to live.
These
words are part of the commentary affixed to the
verse that is highlighted specifically for you by
todays Reading from the image of Darkening
of the Light. In this verse, the oracle says,
Darkening of the light injures him in the
left thigh. He gives aid with the strength of a
horse. Good fortune. And I will quote
further from the commentary: Even though
the enlightened manage themselves well,
nevertheless in a time of damage to illumination
by ignorant small people they do not escape
injury. Yet because the enlightened handle
themselves in the right way, they cannot be
deeply injured. After all they are able to avoid
serious injury.
It is
doubtless highly appropriate to characterize the
present moment in world markets as a time of
Darkening of the Light. The Americans, who have
blasted other business communities for a
lack of transparency, are now feeling
the same criticism leveled in their direction.
Small people, with big power, acted
in stealth and secrecy, with less than honorable
intent. And now, everybody is suffering.
But you
need to view this situation as transitory,
understanding that in the long run the damage to
your own interests will NOT be decisive. When the
oracle talks about the left thigh, it
specifically refers to a secondary function.
Locomotion of the body was viewed in this
metaphor as coming from the feet and the calves.
The thigh merely follows along with that
movement. And it refers to the left, because for
most people the right side of the body is the
animator and initiator of action. Thus, damage in
the left thigh is not to be dismissed as wholly
insignificant, but it is certainly not as
critical as one might suppose. This is the basis
for the judgment, which says, Good
fortune.
The
oracle also refers to the strength of a
horse, and in the translation of the Tao of
Organization, we have, It bodes well if the
horse is strong. This means that it bodes
well if YOU are strong. And in the Judgment verse
associated with the image of Darkening of the
Light, the oracle says, In adversity it
furthers one to be persevering. And so, the
theme of todays Reading might best be
construed as a reflection on being strong, and
HOW to be strong.
