Psychic Readings from The
Psychic Internet often feature images drawn from the
I Ching Oracle. To offer supplementary
information about these images for our clients,
and for the public, we have provided this archive
of brief articles.

The
abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually
called "hexagrams") symbolize all of
the related and interacting aspects of reality.
In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching
are discussed.

Breakthrough
In our
Reading for you today about your business affairs
during the week ahead, we see signs of an
opportunity for very significant progress.
Opportunity is the keyword, and the significance
of the moment is best summed up for you in the
name of the image that we have drawn for you from
our I Ching Oracle. It is called Breakthrough,
and for this reason it should be considered very
significant indeed.
As
Richard Wilhelm says about this image, it
signifies on the one hand a breakthrough after a
long accumulation of tension, as a swollen river
breaks through its dikes, or in the manner of a
cloudburst. On the other hand, applied to human
conditions, it refers to the time when inferior
people gradually begin to disappear. Their
influence is on the wane; as a result of resolute
action, a change in conditions occurs, a
breakthrough.
This
speaks to the heart of the image in all its
various aspects. The positive power of the moment
is very pronounced, and from a structural point
of view, the image of The Creative shines through
the image of Breakthrough, motivating it and
infusing it with power. Notice, however, in the
quotation from Wilhelm above, that action on your
part is implied in order to realize the potential
that exists in the moment. The image does not
describe a time when all negativity has passed.
That passing is definitely the trend of the time,
but a remnant of the negativity is still present
in the structure of the image, and as such it
must be understood and handled properly. All of
this can be evoked from the Judgment that is
associated with this image. In it the oracle
says, Breathrough. One must resolutely make
the matter known at the court of the king. It
must be announced truthfully. Danger. It is
necessary to notify ones own city. It does
not further to resort to arms. It furthers one to
undertake something.
It is
obvious that a very subtle balance of forces is
implied here. There must be action on your part,
and yet that action must be of a very particular
kind. As the oracle says, there should be no
question about resorting to arms.
Again, as Wilhelm says about the image of
Breakthrough, the struggle must not be
carried on directly by force. Force begets
countervailing force that opposes rather than
accords with your own will in a situation such as
this, and so it is counterproductive.
To be
resolute in your own cause is something else,
however. As an ancient verse attached to this
image suggests, Breathrough means
resoluteness. This is required even if your
resolution should not be expressed in a forceful
way. In short, it is essential that resolute
action be carried out in the right spirit. To
suggest, as the oracle does, that you make
the matter known at the court of the king,
tells you that truthfulness is sufficient to the
moment. One could describe the subtlety of the
distinction that we are making here to the
difference in the words serious and
sincere. In your current situation,
seriousness would be foolish, because sincerity
will do quite as well by itself.
