Psychic Readings from The
Psychic Internet often feature images drawn from the
I Ching Oracle. To offer supplementary
information about these images for our clients,
and for the public, we have provided this archive
of brief articles.

the I Ching Oracle, click here.
The
abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually
called "hexagrams") symbolize all of
the related and interacting aspects of reality.
In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching
are discussed.

Abundance
It is
ironic in one sense that we find the image of
Abundance appearing from our Chinese Oracle, the
so called I Ching, or Book of Changes today in
this Reading. The idea of abundance, of course,
has an obvious applicability to excess weight.
What is ironic, however, is that we feel from you
NOT a consciousness of abundance, but rather of
needs that are not being fulfilled.
You know,
this word need is very funny. In
America, it is a sin to be needy. Indeed, as we
will note below, guilt is another of the patterns
of thought and feeling that we sense in you. It
may be that you feel guilt about being needy.
People today have probably attached the wrong
connotations to the idea of needs. Actually, if
you think of it, there is nothing more natural
than having needs. Too often, we find ourselves
in the position of being asked to squelch our
needs. Half the time we are the ones doing the
asking as well as the squelching. It is just
plain uncool to have needs.
In
general, you are in a seeking cycle
of your life, and this seeking is another (very
positive) expression of need. It accounts for
much of your impatience also, for seeking is not
usually a matter of instant satisfaction. You
must feel that you are always rushing and
waiting, rushing and waiting. You feel harnessed,
restrained from being able to get up and go as
you would like. You are expectant and feel that
you are going somewhere, that you NEED to get
somewhere in your life, something is missing, but
you just cant put your finger on what it
is.
Some of
this feeling has roots in your deeper past. Your
relationship with your father is, we feel, part
of what is being manifested by this issue of your
weight. There is need relating to your father
that has gone unmet, perhaps need for the
psychological nourishment and sustenance that you
should have had from him.
We sense
that you have a taste for fine things, and so you
feel need there too that is not satisfied.
Consider how the earths waters comes from
different places, but all of these streams
ultimately come together in one great river, and
that river, dont forget, has the power to
drive the electrical dynamos with which we do
great works.
A more
powerful subsidiary current in your pattern of
needs may be coming out of a physical need for
more touch and intimacy. It is an absolute
tragedy how reluctant Americans are to recognize
their needs to be touched. In fact, we believe
you will in your case contribute to the goal of
establishing a better weight for yourself by
including a regular program of massage in your
schedule. A massage is like a validation of the
body, and you need this validation. In a
past-life, we believe you were a model, or in
some way exemplary in your bodily conformations,
perhaps very beautiful. This is hanging over your
consciousness, and you are subconsciously
comparing yourself to what you were in that
lifetime. Thus, you play with the idea that you
are unattractive, but I feel sure you know that
is just not true.
In
general, we feel that you need fuller expression
of your physical and sensual self. This means
that YOU are feeling this need, not that anyone
needs it in the abstract. YOU need it, and
subconsciously you know that you are not getting
enough of it, and this creates hunger in the
body. (Then if you are dieting and feeling an
actual physical hungry also. . . well it is just
too much to bear. One advantage of the kind of
diet that limits fat rather than limits food is
that you dont have to be hungry. You simply
have to redirect your tastes and habits.)
The image
of Abundance is one of the most curious in the
entire collection. It is fair to say it is one of
the more mysterious and obscure images in the I
Ching. It shows, for some reason, the course of
an eclipse. Nobody knows for sure how to explain
the association of an eclipse with the idea of
abundance. We wont try to do it here. What
we can say is that the particular aspect of the
image that is highlighted for you by this Reading
suggests the beginning of the other side of the
eclipse, when the light comes back. And it is for
this reason that this aspect tends to transform
the image into the image of Darkening of the
Light.
The verse
that applies to you from this last image says,
One gets at the very heart of the darkening
of the light. Think about the odd double
use that we have in English for the word light.
After all, if you lose some weight you will be
light. Expressing this in another way, excess
weight tends to cover something up. It is a way
of not seeing something. Of obscuring or
eclipsing the light.
You can
be sure that you are going to reach your goal.
When we give up guilt, and acknowledge our needs,
all the hobgoblins that keep us from attaining to
a mastery of life simply give up and drift away.
They are only phantoms anyway. You wont
have to fight a battle against your weight when
you attend to the root causes of you hunger.
When you
consider your needs from an objective point of
view, you will have to put some in abeyance
knowing that Rome was not built in a
day. There you will exercise patience. With
respect to other needs, especially physical needs
for touch and sensual pleasure, you will also
find the right solution. Then, your weight will
balance itself out by nature and without a
struggle. Victory without struggle: ah,
thats the best kind.
